Lovely
by Brianna Lane (September 2006)
I am a dying dandelion
I am an unforgivable sin
I am a half-assed restoration
Tear me down never build me up again
I was her sweet corn in the summer
I was her birthday party pony
I was the red leaves of November
I was her never ending story
I called myself I called myself lovely
Now there ain’t nobody else who’s gonna call me tht but me
She was my Saturday morning
She was my treehouse blueprints
She was my secret worth holding
She was my never regret
We were as golden as the summer
We were as true as the trees
We were never December
We were magnolia leaves
We called ourselves we called ourselves lovely
Now there ain’t nobody else now gonna call us that but me
Now I am a dying dandelion
Naked form the breath of a wish
Her fear got a hold of her like springs first rainstorm
I was her first kiss
Now I call myself I call myself lovely
Now there ain’t nobody else
There ain’t nobody else
No there ain’t nobody else who’s gonna call me that— but me
Lovely
Lovely
Lovely
