Sending Out The Dove

by Brianna Lane 11/30/05

You were next to your brother the drummer
Quietly playing your fife
Thinking that it was just song
You were unknowingly picking a fight
Something went terribly wrong
Suddenly there were two sides

You were constantly changing the rules
Looking for new ways of playing the game
Dodging the dirty mouthed veterans
Singing to make you feel sane
Befriending the mutable like-minded people
Never intending for pain

You were sheltered
And you were loved
You were the little boy
That they dreamed of
Now you’re sending
Now you’re sending
Now you’re sending out the dove

Now you’re constantly clicking your heels
Muttering something about somewhere safe
Practicing what you would say
When you finally come face to face
Quietly picking up clues
Telling you home is no longer a place
For you

You were sheltered
And you were loved
You were the little boy
That they dreamed of
Now you’re sending
Now you’re sending
Now you’re sending out the dove
