Winter Coat

by Brianna Lane (December 2005 added bridge Dec. 2006)

The leaves were green
Then they were brown
Then they were gone
No golden reds this year
Now we’re trying to convince ourselves
That we love the winters here

There was you and there was me
And there were ten thousand miles between
That distance had no chance
I’m bringing you north
We’ll lie on the frozen lake
Remembering southern days

Now we’re putting a little bailey’s in our coffee mugs
Saving up our pennies in an old cider jug
Someday I’ll buy you a ring, nothing fancy
We ain’t so rich but we sure are wealthy

The icicles are forming on all the store awnings
Let the wind howl away
We’re staying indoors
The evergreen just gives me hope
Our love is my winter coat
