The Good Guys

by Brianna Lane 2004

This house was built by
Bricks and good-byes
and tear filled green eyes
we were the good guys

these little eyes saw seasons change
and every Wednesday just the same
we waited at the window pane
we were the good guys

we fought Minnesota’s cold
and men who never seemed to show
we made out angels in the snow
we were the good guys

I grew up down town
Sheltered well and college bound
Nothing ever brought us down
we were the good guys

and we did well with what we had
my childhood wasn’t all that bad
my mom played roles of mom and dad
we were the good guys

there was no war zone
there was no broken home
just mom and I on our own
we were the good guys

this house was built by
bricks and good bye
and welcome home cries
